Alex is the smart one who claims first place in every human endeavor. To be true, he really excels in all forms of gambling. Alex likes to help people. Thus, when his old friend Fung is jilted by a rich girl, he immediately takes Fung to a slave auction in the Philippines. There, Fung buys a woman of beauty and femininity. Alex himself falls in love with Mina, who is deadly against gambling. She would break ties with anyone found to be gambling...

1927. The place is Kalmar and the Grossman family home. A hungover manufacturer Julius Grossman and his wife Solveig are waiting at home for their daughter Betty to arrive by train from the capital. To their great surprise, she arrives in a car with her suitor Greger in tow. What's more, she seems to be full of contemporary trends and modern ideas about marriage, among other things. Her father Julius would rather see her marry his business partner Hilding and thus retain control of the company. Hilding is a dull, somewhat dreary, and slightly overage bachelor who suddenly becomes every woman's dream prince when a rumor begins to circulate that he had a relationship with the famous movie star Rita Ray in his youth.

We take him for someone else, a Mr. Schmitt. And one evening, at dinner, he and his wife, played by Valérie Bonneton, realize that their apartment has changed, that their business is not theirs. The play is about the perception of oneself. I love the absurd universe of its author, Sébastien Thiéry.

The cast, in accordance with Marcel Bluwal's wishes, is in keeping with the age and character of the characters, to give it rhythm. At once "a comic baroque play, a bourgeois drama, a chansonnier's number, a social satire, a farce and a very pretty love story" according to Marcel Bluwal, it can also be summed up, according to Beaumarchais, as "the most bantering of intrigues".
