Nirakkoottu movie tells Sasikala Varghese (Urvashi) who wants to find out about Ravi Varma (Mammootty) who is sentenced to death for the murder of his wife Mercy (Sumalatha) who is also Sasikala's sister. Journalist Sasikala covers and receives acclaim for the story of the once-wealthy but now death-sentenced convict Ravi Varma, for the cruel murder of his ex-wife Mercy, a beautiful model. A day before his scheduled execution, Ravi Varma escapes prison, and a deeper story that ties him, Sasikala and other characters unfolds in the events that follow.

Rajan, though successful in his job, but his family life is not so happy. His wife, Nalini, aspires for a fellowship in Harvard University, US, leaving behind her husband and kid, Babumon. When his father, Madhavan, a retired school teacher, is down with ailment, Rajan along with his family returns to his ancestral home. Madhavan's daughters and in-laws were busy in their own ways, as they don't wish to spend many days with their dying father. Madhavan's children except Rajan leaves as Ammu was there to look after their father. Rajan remembers his young days of romance with Ammu.
