An alcoholic ex-football player drinks his days away, having failed to come to terms with his sexuality and his real feelings for his football buddy who died after an ambiguous accident. His wife is crucified by her desperation to make him desire her: but he resists the affections of his wife. His reunion with his father—who is dying of cancer—jogs a host of memories and revelations for both father and son.

They recall their childhood mischief and their glorious time, which was at the beginning of the First World War, which was at first somewhere far away, but its threatening echo was coming closer every day. In their childhood they dreamed of reaching the very edge of the world, which they thought was in Istanbul. The alcoholic takes the professor to a restaurant, and there their dreams come true. The intellectual got to Istanbul (the name of the restaurant), and the alkie was able to get drunk with his mate's money.
